My name is Kiki Chansamone founder of We The Project. Over the last 3 decades I've been a comic book artist for DC and Marvel, VFX supervisor on television shows & music videos, and directed a host of broadcast commercials. It's been a very creative and rewarding life filled with my share of unique set experiences. But all of this could have been very different.
I grew up in Sandy, Utah during the 80's wanting to be an artist and creative. It was classic small town America. A look around my neighborhood was a daily reminder that I had no connections or chance to break into the entertainment industry. So I gave up all of my ambitions to be a professional creative at the age of 12.
I moved to California two years later, met some incredibly supportive teachers that helped me realize I had valuable skills and this was what opened up the entire creative world to me.
A few years back, while clearing out my storage shed, I stumbled upon my wallet from those early Utah days. Inside was my list of life goals written by my 12 year old self- the kid that had given up before he even got started. There was no mention of creative aspirations or a hope for being the artist that I wanted to be. It felt like a serious kick in the stomach.
Reflecting on the reality of the entertainment industry it became clear how common this story is. There are countless twelve year old kids across the world right now that are just like me. It made me wonder how many people are just an opportunity away from their dreams. This was the moment We The Project was born.
So I made it my mission to help. I decided to be the person my younger self needed. While I could never guarantee him success, the fruits of my career could help create some opportunities. I believe great ideas deserve to be seen & heard and great talent deserves to be discoverable.
